Back in Fernandina Beach, FL

It was my intention that on returning to our home (the non-moving one) in Florida, to update with a blog every month. Not because I had much to tell, but to ensure the blog-space (?) was kept active. But it would also be a way of keeping track of our goings-on during the stationary part of our lives. Plus if anyone cared to check in on us, they would see something new.

Since returning from our 5 month trek, we have been busy getting acclimated to the house. Yes, it was in excellent condition thanks to our house-sitter (and the cleaning lady!). It sounds like a cliche, but everything was so neat and clean, it didn't look like anyone had been in the house since we left. (Of course, after a couple of weeks of being home, it wasn't so neat and clean!)

To summarize the last 2 months:
1) we took a cruise - Carnival Cruise Line (the Celebration ship) - from Jacksonville to Key West then over to Nassau, Bahamas and back. 5 nights. The weather wasn't very cooperative. Although it was clear and warm the first day at sea, the rest of the trip was cloudy, windy, and cold. They recommended no one go on deck during the return trip - too windy. A fair amount of ship motion with several people (including some crew) getting sea-sick. Fortunately we survived although it wasn't very pleasant.
2) you may recall when we purchased the motorhome (in August), we did not have a car to run around in. Whenever possible we rented from Enterprise (they come and get you). But after returning home, we decided we wanted a second car for here (mine) and to be able to tow it behind the motorhome next year. So we bought a 2006 Saturn Vue (photo above). It is used (probably by a rental car company) with about 22,000 miles and has a couple of years and 14,000 miles under the original factory warranty. We're pleased with it as a car.
3) the next challenge was get a tow bar installed so we could tow it behind the motorhome (really ought to come up with a name for the beastie). That turned out to be a larger undertaking (and more expensive) than we expected. Still not finished - need to go back to St. Augustine (Camping World) before the next outing and get the job completed.

Other than that, we are having our first taste of cold weather. Hasn't frosted / frozen along the ocean here yet, but colder inland. The good news is that Flordia cold weather is usually clear (unlike other parts of the country where cold weather means snow or worse) and it generally last for no more than 2 or 3 days. I expect to be out on the golf course come Monday - temperature is supposed to be back in the 60's.

We have put up our tree and finished decorating. It was going to be done Thanksgiving weekend but that didn't happen. We also bid on and won a small table top tree from a charity auction at the Bailey house next door. That is now in our dining room.

I didn't sing in the Amelia Island singers concert in October - missed too many rehearsals (they started in August!) - but I plan to be in the next one, in March 2007.

Other than the above, we're about ready to do Christmas cards and relax for the rest of 2006. Next year should be pretty special. We're already planning a trip up the coast to Boston in early April so I can attend the Photoshop World convention and visit with friends in Boston and Virginia (including the folks we didn't get to see this summer!).

Thanks for reading this and the nice compliments.

A merry Christmas to everyone and a happy and prosperous 2007.

Wayne
